Brrr, it’s cold in here! I know that seems to be a regular theme over the last few weeks but it really is cold in Victoria. So cold that there was snow in the mountains. In May. May does not ordinarily bring snow but this year it has. As I’m feeling extra cold these days, I thought it would be a good idea to find myself some new winter warmers.
Some days I find it ironic that it was a move to Melbourne that triggered my sense of environmentalism: a city with over 4 million people that is expanding at a rate quicker than we can provide infrastructure, jobs, and houses (urban planner reporting for duty). Of course, it was more than just a move to Melbourne that did it, it was also the beginning of my degree in Urban and Regional Planning at RMIT.
Ah, the vintage brooch. Quite possibly my favourite accessory, however my vintage brooch collection stands but at one. It would be fair to say that I need to rectify that situation, and today’s Friday Finds is to help me on my way.
Wednesday already, and boy is it getting cold here in Melbourne! You may have noticed that the last What To Wear Wednesday was two weeks ago. To fit in with my new schedule and the commencement of Alexie RicRac Sustainable Vintage Wares on 4 June, What To Wear Wednesday styled outfits will be coming to you fortnightly as of today. What does this mean for you, the reader? It means that style posts will be available every second Wednesday, and they’ll be just as awesome as ever, curated from my favourite vintage inspired finds across the web.
The Antarctic chill has hit us early and with great force, so this week my mind turned to trousers and long sleeves. Darker clothes tend to creep into our winter wardrobes, so I’ve tried to warm them up with a nice blue shirt and red accessories.
A few months ago, just as I was starting my small business course, I was doing some research into the online pin-up and vintage community. I wanted to find out the best groups to be a part of and to network with. Ideally I wanted predominantly Australian groups but if I could find others that fit my bill, I was happy to join those too. During this search I found Pin-up’s Against Bullying, Inc. – Australia. Straight away I felt the heart strings being pulled and I knew I had to be a part of this community, even if it meant just following and liking everything religiously.

Seventy years later, to mark the release of ‘A Royal Night Out’, today’s Friday Finds recreates the costumes similar to those worn by Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret as seen in the ‘A Royal Night Out’ preview.
Late in January, Australis had a rather hefty online sale to the tune of fifty per cent off. Not only did they offer fifty per cent off, if you spent over $50 you also got free postage. A friend and I pooled our orders together, and although we didn’t make the $50 free postage spend – which I should add is standard for the site – we walked away with a swag of products.
Is there any better way to kick of a weekend than with a spot of shopping? I think not. The return of Friday Finds – after a rather large hiatus sorry! – brings to you this week my lip colour loves and crushes. Some are tried and tested, others are lust haves. All are available here in Australia.
Picking and styling an outfit for you every week is not always easy. Some weeks I struggle to find the right accessories, some weeks I struggle to pick the right shoes. Some weeks I can’t even decide which one staple to base the outfit on. My struggle this week? Figuring out what to NOT include.
They say a change is as good as a holiday, and right now the budget only extends to one of those things, and I can tell you that it’s not a holiday! The last time I dyed my hair was November 2013 and it was a slight disaster. What was meant to be a lovely red turned out to be chocolate mahogany. The only image I can find is a really grainy selfie, so you’ll just have to take my word for it that is was NOT what it was meant to be. I’m confident in dyeing my own hair, and when I showed my hairdresser the images of the packaging compared with what my hair looked like, she even concluded that the wrong dye was put in the pack. It’s taken until now, April 2015 for my hair to be back to its natural colour, but I’m ready for a change!
