Jewellery: Effortless Vintage Sophistication

Have you heard the saying: “You wear twenty percent of your wardrobe eighty percent of the time”? When I think about my wardrobe, I have to agree.
Remembering the 20/80 wardrobe rule, I always accessorise my outfits with jewellery. Vintage jewellery can take your outfit from simple to stylish.

FInding vintage Jewellery

I’m always on the hunt for vintage jewellery, particularly pieces from the 40s and 50s. I’ve recently discovered Invaluable, an online auction site. You can only imagine how thrilled I was to find they have a whole section dedicated to jewellery!
Finding screw on earrings is one of my favourite past times. I would love to add these vintage earrings to my jewellery collection.

My collection of vintage jewellery is coming along quite nicely. I have family heirlooms and estate/auction purchases in my jewellery box. My vintage jewellery ranges from brooches to earrings to necklaces.
My favourite piece  is my late great-grandmother’s blue Aurora Borealis (AB) crystal necklace set. Ever so delicate, the necklace set can be worn three ways. How, I hear you ask? The set is made of two necklaces – one is a single strand of AB cyrstals and the other is a double strand. The crystals are graduated, with the larger crystals in the front, and nest perfectly around your neck. As well as my affinity for the beauty and versatility of the necklace set is my love of the clasps and closures on older necklaces. Instead of the parrot clasps or regular O closures you find on contemporary jewellery pieces, the clasp on a vintage necklace is normally quite practical, and often intricate and sophisticated. It’s safe to say that jewellery isn’t what it used to be!

I love the way crystals reflect light. It adds a touch of beauty to this already stunning necklace set. Then there’s the link from the crystals to the chain. Has there ever been anything more elegant? I’m falling more and more in love with these necklaces every day.
