My Month In Pictures: October 2015

During the second week of October, I realised I didn’t round up September’s Month In Pictures. Time just plumb got away from me. Never fear though, I’m here with the October edition which I’m afraid is rather boring, at least from a social media viewpoint, I wasn’t particularly active on Instagram!

Spring Wedding: What To Wear Wednesday #9

You know how some years are years where you’re invited to wedding after wedding after wedding? That’s what this year is for me and The Mister. This year is not the Year of the Sheep, it’s the Year of the Wedding! There are five weddings in our calendar this year, including our own. Four out of the five weddings have been or will be hosted in Melbourne and Geelong; one of them is even a spring wedding. The fifth wedding, which we unfortunately are unable to attend due to budget constraints, is being hosted in Hawaii. Ordinarily, I’d give lots of thought to what I’d wear to a wedding but because we’re celebrating in spirit here in Melbourne instead of Maui, it’s okay to wear my pyjamas! But, maybe I should hold that thought and see what I would wear if we were there celebrating with L & S on their special day. Come with me as I step back into the late 1950s/early 1960s with this dream outfit for a dream spring wedding in Hawaii.

What To Wear Wednesday #8

How lucky are my parents? Both their children getting married in the same year, and eighteen weeks apart! I’m really looking forward to celebrating my brother and his future wife’s wedding. I’d already gone through two wardrobe changes before Christmas too with regard to what I’d wear to their wedding. You might remember me fawning over Lindy Bop’s Cindy in Sage in December. Well, I ordered it in late December/early January, making it a third outfit change before my brother’s wedding was remotely close. I didn’t pay proper attention to the sizing and measurements though so when it arrived and I couldn’t do it up (I ordered the same size as the Audrey dress I have but Cindy and Audrey are not the same!), I had to send it back and get the next size up.
Lesson of the day: read the measurements of each dress carefully, and make sure you triple check your own measurements!

What to wear: Black Tie Wedding

Recently, we received an invitation to a Black Tie Wedding. It’s a family wedding, so I couldn’t wear just any old thing, nor did I have anything suitable in my wardrobe for such an event.

Here in Australia, it’s summer from December through to February. While I dreamed of a beautiful floor length gown with a vintage fur (or faux if I couldn’t find one in budget) and gloves, I knew it was just not practical. I did Google to see the parameters for modern day Black Tie standards, and found that cocktail gowns are deemed appropriate. I found the perfect dress (see Black Tie Wedding: The Winter Edition for styling) but as it was on its way to me I realised I ordered a size up from my regular size. Bother! It was well too big, and just as well because it was fully lined and velvet – not ideal for a summer day!

An agonising process, I waited a little longer before placing an order at ModCloth on Cyber Monday. I’d been hoping the dress I was eyeing off would be a Black Friday special but alas it was not. Thank goodness for Cyber Monday – although we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving here in Australia, I know I sure am thankful for the Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales. The dress arrived to me a few days ago, and although it runs a little big around the waist, it fits quite well everywhere else. I sourced the perfect shoes (pictured) and think I’ve found accessories for my outfit, but need to put everything together so that hopefully it will turn out a little like what you see below in Black Tie Wedding: The Summer Edition.
